When people hear root canal, they're often ensure about what that really means. So what is a root canal? A root canal is a procedure that is often necessary to save one’s natural tooth when a tooth is badly decayed and/or infected with an abscess. Modern day root canals are similar to general fillings but are more involved as the decay in the tooth of need is much greater.
Most patients that are candidates for root canal treatment have severe decay in their tooth and are experiencing significant tooth pain and soreness.
During a root canal, Dr. Koplon and his team will start by taking an x-ray of the tooth to confirm how much decay has occurred and exactly what needs to be addressed. Then, after providing local numbing medication, Dr. Koplon will make a small opening in the tooth and clean the pulp, ridding it of the infection (abscess) and decay. Once cleaned, the pulp and canal are sealed and a temporary filling is placed back on the opening; a final crown is often put on in a secondary visit. Most of the time, a root canal is done in just one appointment and is a routine procedure.
In our office, Dr. Koplon and team complete root canals in all teeth, anterior and posterior (molar).
