Root Canals

When teeth are damaged the inside of the tooth can become infected. This can then have a bad effect upon the pulp of the tooth i.e. the blood vessels and nerves inside. If this happens to one of your teeth, Dr. Koplon may decide to carry out an endodontic treatment (Root Canal Therapy) in order to save the tooth. He will open and remove the damaged pulp and then clean up the inside before putting in a filling and adding a crown.

Root Canals

After a root canal, your pain and swelling will disappear, and will be able to chew normally. Your tooth will look natural and by retaining your own natural tooth, rather than having it replaced, your remaining healthy teeth will be protected from additional strain or wear and tear

About Root Canals and Extractions

What is a Root Canal?
A Root Canal is a procedure that is conducted to save one’s natural tooth when a tooth is badly decayed and/or infected. Cracks and decay can cause infection in a tooth, resulting in the need for a root canal. Without a root canal treatment, you may be jeopardizing the tissue around the tooth and cause an abscess.
Am I a candidate for root canal treatment?

While sometimes no signs or symptoms of infection are present, it is important to note specific symptoms that are paired with needing a root canal:

• Severe tooth pain when chewing or asserting pressure on area
• Sensitivity to hot or cool temperatures
• Swelling and tenderness in surrounding gums
• Drainage of the gums
