Easy tips for keeping optimal oral health

by Dr. Adam Koplon

At Koplon Implant & Family Dentistry, we are passionate about helping our patients keep and achieve a healthy smile. There are easy ways to improve and maintain one’s dental health that should be part of a person’s daily routine. Dr. Adam’s tips include:

  • Brush your teeth two times a day: This should be a no brainer, but sometimes people forget! You should brush your teeth at least two times a day – in the morning and at night before bed – for at least two minutes. Your toothpaste should have fluoride in it (almost all toothpastes do!) and brushing should be accompanied by flossing daily, too. It may be tempting to skip a brushing when you are super tired but trust us – you will thank yourself later!
  • Eat a balanced diet: One of the easiest ways to hurt your teeth and cause decay is having a diet full of processed foods and sugars. While it’s OK to indulge in a sweet snack every now and then, but it’s better to have a diet full of water, healthy fruits, vegetables, whole grains and dairy. Drinks like soda and sweet tea are full of sugar and so are processed foods which can lead to decay and cavities.
  • Drink water: Drinking enough water is such a simple way to improve your overall health, but particularly your oral health. Not only does drinking water help remove food particles from your mouth and hydrate you but tap water in particular has fluoride which helps protect your teeth. When you can, opt for water!
  • See the dentist two times a year: It is super important to visit the dentist twice a year for cleanings and exams. Preventative measures like teeth cleanings will help spare you future issues down the road, and also can be a good way for the dentist to catch signs of other health issues/concerns.

Are you due for a visit? Give us a call so we can get your appointment scheduled: 205-699-2551.
