Say goodbye to traditional impressions with our new iTero Scanner

by Dr. Adam Koplon

As part of our commitment to providing the best dental experience possible for our patients, we constantly invest in new technology that will better the care of our patients. We are proud to introduce our new iTero Scanner, an intraoral scanner that replaces the process of doing traditional impressions. This state-of-the-art digital impression technology is safe, fast and easy, replacing the traditional gooey impressions that patients often hate. This is the most accurate way to capture a mold of your teeth and mouth.

How does the iTero scanner work?

Through using a digital wand, dentists can capture thousands of digital pictures of the inside of your mouth and gums, then creating a digital 3D model of your mouth from which your dentist can develop an accurate treatment plan. The use of the iTero scanner and digital scanning is more precise than traditional impressions because every inch of your mouth is being photographed thousands of times.

This technology complements our same day crowns services through the use of our CEREC machine, where we can mill crowns in the same appointment in our in-house lab, meaning that we do not have to work with an outside lab to create crowns, dentures, implants and more for our patients.

Why is this good for patients?

In the past, patients have had to insert a tray with gooey impression material in their mouth, bite down, and wait several minutes for their impression to take and harden. This causes a gag reflex for a lot of patients, leaves a bad taste in your mouth, and often leaves behind remnants of the goo. Quite frankly, its uncomfortable for most patients. With the iTero scanner, we are able to offer our patients a painless and comfortable impression experience, and patients can rest in knowing that there is no more accurate way of collecting impressions! This is top of the line technology found at few dental offices.

What do you need impressions for?

Traditionally, impressions are gathered for a range of dental procedures, such as for crowns, dental implants, dentures, bridges, and even cosmetic procedures like Invisalign and teeth whitening trays. We are able to replace traditional goo mold impressions for most patients by using the iTero scanner and digital scanning.

We are excited to offer this state-of-the-art technology to our patients and community. For more information on our digital scanning offerings or to make your next appointment, call us at 205-699-2551.
