Reasons to get Dental Implants

by Dr. Adam Koplon

There are many reasons why we recommend dental implants for patients. Not only are they natural looking, long-lasting or permanent, and allow you to eat, talk and drink like normal, they are a successful method for tooth replacement that preserve your jawline and bone structure.

But why do people need dental implants? There can be a number of causes, but most often, we recommend them in the following situations:

  • Dead or decayed tooth: Often, a patient presents with a tooth that is not salvageable. The tooth is very decayed and infected, and there is not enough permanent tooth to survive. A dental implant or multiple dental implants can be placed to maintain and preserve a patient’s smile.
  • Fractured tooth: Many times, a fractured tooth has such damage to it that a crown is not a long-lasting option. In these cases, we recommend a dental implant as a way to alleviate pain while providing a permanent solution for the patient.
  • Ill-fitting denture: A lot of our patients wear dentures, and they can come loose or have a poor fit, among other issues. We recommend fixed-in dental implant supported dentures that give the same look as a denture provides but instead, its permanent supported by dental implants to maintain the integrity of a patient’s smile.
  • Missing tooth: Sometimes patients come to us with a tooth or several teeth missing already. They haven’t been offered the benefits of dental implants and we are able to restore their smile and fill in the gaps, which gives them back confidence and their ability to eat, talk or drink normally.
